Financial Controller - 6-month contract
Job Description
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Financial Controller to join a growing North American organization within the cybersecurity and behavioural biometrics space. This is a full-time, leadership-level role responsible for overseeing financial operations, reporting, compliance, and strategic financial planning.
Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Financial Controller will play a key role in ensuring the integrity of financial reporting, optimizing processes, and supporting executive decision-making.
This position works remotely within Canada, and offers a competitive compensation package including base salary, equity participation, health benefits and paid vacation.
Responsibilities:
Prepare and deliver consolidated monthly financial reporting packages, including full IFRS financial statements, supporting working papers, and analysis
Manage weekly cash flow reporting, including tracking departmental spend and forecasting
Perform monthly financial analysis and present key performance indicators (KPIs) to leadership
Lead the year-end close process and coordinate with external auditors
Prepare quarterly and annual IFRS consolidated financial statements, MD&A, and public company filings
Support executive reporting by compiling financial data for presentations to senior leadership, Board of Directors, and investors
Oversee Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, and sales invoicing cycles
Manage banking relationships, cash flow, and liquidity planning
Review and approve monthly bank reconciliations
Oversee payroll processing, HR-related financial activities, and equity-based compensation
Ensure adherence to internal controls, policies, and financial processes, recommending improvements where necessary
Manage all regulatory filings, including tax compliance and quarterly/annual returns
Prepare financial analysis related to debt financing activities
Support applications and reporting for grants and tax credit programs (e.g., IRAP, SR&ED)
Maintain and organize corporate data room documentation
Lead the preparation and review of annual budgets and financial forecasts
Support strategic initiatives through financial analysis and due diligence (e.g., product development, financings, M&A)
Partner with executive leadership to provide insights that drive business performance and growth
Requirements
Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (CA, CGA, or CMA)
Strong experience with IFRS and public company financial reporting requirements
6 years of progressive accounting experience with a strong preference for public accounting firm exposure
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
Proficiency in equity-based compensation modelling (e.g., Black-Scholes)
Experience with cloud-based accounting and financial systems (e.g., Xero, Wagepoint, Gusto, Recurly, Plooto)
Experience in a B2B SaaS environment is considered an asset
Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
