About the role
Our confidential client is a nimble, growth-oriented upstream energy company focused on maximizing value from producing assets through technical excellence and innovative approaches. They are seeking a Senior Reservoir Engineer to lead exploitation and evaluation activities, drive asset optimisation, and support strategic growth initiatives including acquisitions and field development. This is a high-exposure role with direct interaction with senior leadership and opportunity to influence major investment decisions.
Role overview
Reporting to the Vice President of Engineering, you will join a small, multidisciplinary team and take point on reservoir engineering for the company’s asset base. Your work will centre on improving recovery and production through practical, data-driven engineering, and on preparing robust technical and economic cases to support development and A&D activity.
Responsibilities:
Asset management & technical delivery
Lead reservoir evaluations and studies that integrate geology, geophysics and production data to define development opportunities and optimise performance.
Design and evaluate waterflood and other secondary/tertiary recovery strategies, including calculations such as voidage replacement, sweep efficiency and recovery factors.
Prepare technical input for field development plans, economic models and cashflow forecasts to support investment decisions.
Coordinate independent third-party evaluations and reserve assessments as required, managing scope and budget.
Deliver required regulatory and compliance submissions to provincial authorities and ensure timely, accurate reporting.
Work closely with production operations to identify and implement well and asset optimisation measures, including recompletions, infill drilling and workovers.
Conduct post-activity technical reviews and lessons-learned analyses to improve future performance.
Prepare and present technical recommendations and approvals packages to management and finance teams.
Business development & growth
Support acquisition and divestment activities by providing engineering evaluations, economic assessments and technical due diligence.
Identify and prioritise short-term and longer-term growth opportunities aligned with corporate strategy.
Collaborate with geoscience, operations and commercial teams to develop acquisition targets and build coherent technical/risked business cases.
Prepare clear, data-driven presentations for management and potential investors or partners.
Requirements
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation and 20+ years of upstream oil and gas experience.
Strong track record in reservoir engineering with extensive hands-on waterflood experience and asset optimisation.
Proven capability in reservoir evaluation, exploitation planning, and economic modelling to support commercial decisions.
Experience with reserves estimation and probabilistic assessment is an asset.
Demonstrated involvement in A&D and business development activities preferred.
Practical understanding of horizontal drilling, secondary recovery and enhanced recovery techniques.
Experience preparing corporate production and cash-flow models to support financing and budgeting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills; comfortable presenting to senior leadership and external stakeholders.
Able to prioritise, collaborate across disciplines, and make timely technical decisions under constrained timelines.
Field experience is beneficial.
Strong quantitative and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detail.
Commercial acumen and the ability to translate technical results into business outcomes.
Self-motivated, pragmatic, and curious with a continuous improvement mindset.
