Regional HR Business Partner - Calgary
Job Description
Our client is a growing organization operating across multiple entities in Canada, seeking a Regional HR Business Partner to join their Corporate team on a full-time basis, reporting to the VP, Human Resources. This role combines payroll and benefits administration with HR generalist and employee relations responsibilities, and offers the opportunity to work closely with leadership while also mentoring and developing a member of the HR team.
The successful candidate will be a credible, trusted HR resource who thrives in a fast-paced environment, balancing full-cycle payroll, recruitment, employee relations, and compliance work with the responsibility of guiding and developing others.
Responsibilities:
Payroll & Benefits
Lead the administration of employee benefit programs (health benefits, RSP plan, etc.), including enrolment, terminations, and adjustments.
Manage and process payroll for all employees across two separate entities, including salary/wage increases, bonuses and commissions, ensuring the accuracy of preliminary payroll reports, timesheets and spreadsheets.
Ensure that all salaries and wages are paid accurately and in a timely manner to all employees.
Prepare year-end payroll processing, including taxable benefits entries and generating accurate T4s within required timelines.
Prepare journal entries, records of employment, income tax forms and remittances, and maintain payroll records and documentation for audit purposes in accordance with statutory requirements.
HR Generalist & Employee Relations
Serve as a credible, trusted resource on all human resources matters, coaching managers at various levels on effectively handling employee relations issues to build management credibility and morale.
Lead full-cycle recruitment and selection, including position postings, preliminary screening, interviews, and candidate recommendations that align with the company's culture and values.
Support new employees through a strong onboarding and New Employee Orientation program.
Provide guidance and coaching to managers on disciplinary actions, performance improvement plans, performance reviews, and terminations.
Administer total compensation programs; respond to employee questions on bonus plans, RSP contributions, benefits, and salary administration; coordinate annual compensation surveys.
Monitor employment-related legislation and case law; support compliance through policy review, training, and coaching of managers and employees.
Maintain accurate data and generate reports in HRIS/payroll systems; update job descriptions, policies, procedures, and other HR documents as needed.
Escalate high-impact or complex employee relations matters to the VP, Human Resources as appropriate.
Provide day-to-day work direction, training, and mentorship to an HR team member, assigning projects and reviewing work to support their professional development.
Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum of 5 years of progressive human resources generalist experience, including direct experience with payroll processing and benefits administration.
Knowledge of Canadian payroll is required.
Strong knowledge of payroll systems, internal controls, and payroll/benefits program management.
Working towards or holding a Professional Human Resources designation (e.g., CHRP/PHR) is an asset.
Well-developed understanding of behavior-based interviewing, conflict resolution, and employee relations practices.
Strong knowledge of employment-related legislation and current case law.
Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS/payroll systems, including the ability to prepare journal entries and ad hoc reports using Excel.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent attention to detail and organizational skills in a fast-paced environment.
Strong customer service focus with the ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
Demonstrated ability to coach, mentor, and develop others.
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality of all employee and company information.
