Senior Integrity Engineer - 12 Month Contract, Calgary
Job Description
Our client is a Calgary-based pipeline transportation company, seeking a Senior Integrity Engineer to join their Engineering group within the Transportation Business Unit, based out of their downtown Calgary office. Reporting to the Supervisor, Integrity Engineering, this is an excellent opportunity to join a collaborative and highly skilled team that plays a critical role in ensuring the safe, reliable, and environmentally responsible operation of our client's assets.
The successful candidate will work closely with Engineers, Technologists, and Project Managers across various teams, with a primary focus on Integrity Engineering and Integrity Projects. The role provides valuable exposure to diverse integrity management activities and opportunities to contribute to impactful projects that drive operational excellence and continuous improvement.
The ideal candidate is an independent individual focused on continuous improvement to support the reduction in the number and severity of safety and environmental related incidents, working towards a goal of zero incidents across our client's Canadian pipeline assets.
Responsibilities:
Serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the analysis, assessment, and repair of pipeline defects, including metal loss, deformation, cracking, and other integrity threats.
Perform and review engineering assessments related to pipeline integrity, including defect assessments, fitness-for-service evaluations, and pressure restrictions.
Lead and support the selection of in-line inspection (ILI) technologies and define engineering assessment requirements to support integrity management objectives.
Work closely with ILI vendors to ensure all reports meet technical and quality requirements.
Identify and prioritize excavation candidates through the evaluation of pipeline defects, supporting the optimization of the Integrity Dig Program using threat severity, risk, and integrity assessment results.
Evaluate repair options and make sound engineering recommendations for pipeline repair and mitigation activities.
Support the evaluation and selection of third-party vendors by reviewing project proposals and ensuring alignment with technical requirements, scope, quality standards, and budget objectives.
Develop and maintain guidelines, standards, templates, and procedures to support the Pipeline Integrity Management Program and improve process efficiency and accuracy.
Support budget planning and forecasting for the ILI and dig programs, integrity assessments, and associated integrity management activities.
Support the coordination and update of pipeline integrity information for annual risk assessments.
Support audits and incident investigations.
Provide technical guidance, mentorship, training, and oversight to junior members of the Integrity Engineering team.
Develop and communicate long-term strategies to all relevant stakeholders to manage the integrity of pipeline segments.
Requirements
The ideal candidate will bring a strong technical foundation and hands-on experience working with complex infrastructure environments. Key qualifications include:
Engineering degree (Metallurgical, Mechanical or Electrical preferred).
Registration with APEGA and/or APEGS as a Professional Engineer is required.
10-15 years of related integrity management experience in the pipeline oil and gas business.
Familiarity with pipeline integrity threat assessment and management, management of change, pipeline defect assessments, pressure restrictions, in-line inspections, NDE technologies, and pipeline repairs.
Knowledgeable in current operating standards, codes, rules, and regulations that relate to the implementation of defect assessments, in-line inspections, and pipeline repair.
Familiarity with applicable rules, regulations, and industry standards as they relate to integrity management (i.e., AER, MER, CER, CSA, API, etc.).
Willing and able to participate in weekend on-call pipeline repair and emergency response activities.
Experience in pipeline operations, geohazard management, and risk management are considered an asset.
Possess a strong ability to adapt to multiple demands, shifting priorities and changing business conditions.
Strong organization, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Strong attention to detail is considered an asset.
