Operations Accountant
Job Description
Our client is Canada's largest natural gas producer, focused on long-term growth through exploration, development, production, and strategic acquisitions across the Western Canadian Sedimentary Basin.
They are currently seeking an Operations Accountant to join their Calgary office on a full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced accounting professional who enjoys working in a collaborative, fast-paced environment and wants to play a key role in ensuring accurate operational accounting and financial reporting. You'll work closely with multiple accounting groups while supporting month-end activities, analysis, reporting, and continuous process improvements.
Responsibilities:
Operations Accounting
Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual prepaid and deposit reconciliations and journal entries.
Complete monthly operating cost reallocations.
Process, manage, and analyze insurance invoices.
Prepare and analyze monthly accruals for operating expenses and revenues, including:
Property taxes
AER administration fees
BC production levy
Orphan levies
TIER
Carbon tax
Freehold mineral taxes
Provincial Sales Tax (PST)
Process and analyze annual operating invoices, including property taxes, AER administration fees, orphan levies, and TIER costs.
Prepare operating expense journal entries and adjustments as required.
Financial Analysis & Reporting
Perform account reconciliations and investigate variances.
Respond to inquiries by gathering, analyzing, and interpreting operational and financial data.
Support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end reporting activities.
Prepare ad hoc financial analysis, reporting, and special projects as required.
Collaboration & Audit Support
Work closely with other accounting teams to ensure timely and accurate financial reporting.
Support external audit requests by preparing schedules and required documentation.
Contribute to process improvements that enhance reporting accuracy and efficiency.
Requirements
Minimum of 5 years of accounting experience.
Strong understanding of accounting principles and operational accounting processes.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a positive, team-oriented attitude.
Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail.
Ability to prioritize multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across departments.
Strong work ethic with a sense of ownership and accountability.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 (D365) and OpenInvoice is considered an asset.
Interest in leveraging AI tools to improve productivity and support day-to-day accounting activities.
