Applications Engineer - Houston, TX

Job Description

Our client is seeking an Applications Engineer to support the evaluation, development, and delivery of technical solutions across rotating equipment fleets. This role sits at the intersection of engineering and commercial strategy, supporting the pre-sale process for complex, high-value offerings.

Working closely with internal teams and customers, the successful candidate will play a key role in defining technical scopes, developing solutions, and supporting projects from initial inquiry through to execution. This is an opportunity to contribute to technically complex projects within a collaborative and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Act as a technical lead throughout the inquiry-to-order process, from initial customer engagement through to project handoff

  • Develop and validate scopes of work for upgrades, retrofits, and overhaul solutions in collaboration with engineering teams

  • Interpret customer specifications and identify gaps, risks, or areas requiring clarification

  • Evaluate process data and support the selection of appropriate equipment configurations

  • Perform performance calculations and support development of technical solutions

  • Review applicable industry standards and ensure compliance within project scope

  • Prepare technical proposals, documentation, and cost estimates

  • Support technical reviews, risk assessments, and contract validation

  • Collaborate with internal teams to support bids, proposals, and project pursuits

  • Participate in customer meetings, presentations, and technical discussions

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of technical processes, tools, and documentation

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline

  • 5+ years of experience in rotating equipment (engineering, applications, field service, or commercial roles)

  • Strong knowledge of at least one equipment type such as centrifugal compressors, reciprocating compressors, or steam turbines

  • Experience supporting or developing engineered solutions within industrial sectors such as oil & gas, chemicals, or power

  • Strong communication skills with the ability to prepare client-facing documentation and presentations

  • Ability to interpret technical drawings, specifications, and process documentation
