Job Description

Our client is seeking a Water Resources Engineer with a passion for stormwater management to join their Municipal Infrastructure practice in Edmonton, AB.

This is a technical role suited to someone who enjoys the analysis and design behind water distribution, wastewater collection, and storm drainage systems — and who wants variety, from master drainage plans to LID design to GIS-based spatial analysis. You'll contribute to projects that consider climate change, infrastructure resiliency, and placemaking, while mentoring others and growing with an evolving water resources practice.

Responsibilities:

Technical Analysis & Design

  • Perform system hydraulic analysis for the planning and conceptual design of storm drainage systems, including master drainage plans, flood relief studies, storage facilities, and conveyance systems

  • Participate in the design of drainage and water infrastructure, including culverts, stormwater management facilities, conveyance systems, LID systems, outfalls, surface drainage (lot grading), erosion control, sanitary and combined sewers, and watermain and fire protection networks

  • Design, draft, and review professional work products

  • Participate in project development and delivery from concept design through construction, including site visits as needed

Water Management & Planning

  • Conduct water management studies and analysis projects for the strategic management of water as a resource, including watershed planning and land use, climate change, water conservation and re-use, LID initiatives, water quality, river health, and water-related energy issues

GIS & Spatial Analysis

  • Map and complete spatial analysis using GIS

  • Assist in developing and supporting GIS web applications and solutions for internal and external clients

  • Collaborate with planning and design teams to manage spatial data, complete demographic and spatial analysis, and develop visual media such as public engagement maps

Collaboration & Communication

  • Support multi-disciplinary projects across transportation, land and site development, urban renewal, and landscaping

  • Author and present technical documents — reports, memos, design briefs, and drawings — to clients, regulatory agencies, and the public

  • Respond to internal and external client inquiries promptly

  • Help coordinate projects to ensure completion on time and on budget

Practice Growth & Development

  • Participate in proposal writing and preparation

  • Advise and mentor other team members

  • Stay current on technologies, regulations, and industry trends in water resource engineering, and apply relevant knowledge to projects

  • Participate in professional organizations and networks related to the field

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering

  • Registered as a P.Eng or P.L.Eng with APEGA

  • Exposure to drainage design or construction

  • Experience with MIKE+ or other analysis and simulation software such as HEC-RAS, PCSWMM, XPSTORM, MIKE Urban, MIKE 21, or WaterCAD

  • Experience with GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS

  • Experience with AutoCAD and Civil 3D

  • A graduate degree and/or drainage-focused education or training (asset)

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Suite; experience with Google Workspace

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to present technical information to clients, agencies, and the public

  • Self-motivated, collaborative, and adaptable, with the ability to manage multiple projects at different phases with competing deadlines

  • Own a dependable vehicle and hold a valid Alberta driver's licence

  • Ability to pass a background check
