Transportation Lead (P.Eng)
Job Description
Our client is seeking a Transportation Lead to provide strategic and technical leadership on complex transportation infrastructure initiatives across municipal and regional systems within Calgary or Edmonton, AB.
This is a senior-level role suited to a trusted advisor who can guide clients through planning, analysis, and design while delivering practical, forward-looking solutions. The successful candidate will lead multidisciplinary projects, mentor technical teams, and play a key role in business development and the continued growth of the transportation practice
Responsibilities:
Technical Leadership & Project Delivery
Lead complex, multi-disciplinary transportation programs and major infrastructure projects
Oversee planning, analysis, and design of transportation systems, including:
Roadways, streetscapes, and complete streets
Interchanges, intersections (arterial, freeway, expressway), signals, and roundabouts
Traffic calming, safety, and mobility improvements
Active transportation and transit infrastructure
Parking studies and access management
Prepare and review engineering reports, design drawings, specifications, and cost estimates
Ensure all work aligns with municipal, provincial, and national standards and guidelines
Act as Project Manager, Technical Lead, or Subject Matter Expert as required
Manage project scope, schedule, budget, and overall performance
Collaboration & Stakeholder Engagement
Work closely with internal teams across civil engineering, land development, geomatics, and landscape architecture
Coordinate subconsultants and engage with stakeholders, regulatory bodies, and the public
Represent the organization in meetings with clients, municipalities, and agencies
Business Development & Practice Growth
Build and maintain strong client relationships within municipalities and government agencies
Lead proposal development, including scope definition, scheduling, and fee estimation
Develop win strategies and provide technical leadership on pursuits
Identify and pursue new opportunities to support long-term growth of the transportation practice
Contribute to market presence through industry engagement and networking
Team Leadership & Mentorship
Mentor and support junior and intermediate staff
Provide technical oversight and contribute to a high-performance team culture
Lead quality control and technical review processes
Support continuous improvement of tools, processes, and best practices
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation (or equivalent), registered or eligible with APEGA
10–15 years of transportation engineering experience, preferably within a consulting environment
Strong technical expertise in:
Transportation planning, design, and operational analysis
Urban design and mobility planning
Municipal, provincial, and national design standards
Experience with transportation modeling and analysis tools such as Synchro, SIDRA, VISUM, HCS, and AutoTURN
Proficiency with AutoCAD and Civil 3D (preferred)
Experience with TORUS, ARCADY, and/or Rodel (asset)
Working knowledge of ArcGIS (asset)
Proven project management capabilities, including experience with PM tools and methodologies
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
Demonstrated success in client relationship management and stakeholder engagement
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including presenting technical information to diverse audiences
Experience leading and contributing to proposal development
Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel as required
Ability to pass a background check
