Financial Planning & Analysis Analyst Contract (6-8 months)

Job Description

Our client, an oil and natural gas exploration and production group based in Alberta, is growing and seeking a contract FP&A professional. The ideal candidate must be proficient in upstream oil and gas corporate forecasting and modelling. This role reports to the Finance Manager and directly supports corporate planning and internal financial analysis functions.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and manage the rolling corporate, financial and treasury forecasts.

  • Cross-functional coordination with various departments to support strategic goal alignment.

  • Analysis of actual results against budget and forecast, providing variance analysis and insights.

  • Identify and track KPIs to measure business performance and support accountability.

  • Monitoring weekly cash cycle and trend analysis for cash flow forecasting and assessing financing.

  • Prepare and present financial reports to management.

  • Review and analyze monthly financial and LOS statements relative to the budget.

  • Identifying opportunities to streamline and improve financial processes, reporting, systems and data accuracy.

  • Provide ad hoc support to the Finance Manager on hedge book maintenance and reporting.

  • Support in mentoring team members building scalable FP&A processes.

  • Potential to support the maintenance of the corporate financial model and strategic financial modelling function based on experience.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field.

  • CPA or CFA designation is a strong asset.

  • Proven experience in upstream oil and gas modelling and internal FP&A reporting.

  • Proven experience collaborating with multiple teams within upstream oil and gas disciplines.

  • Strong proficiency with MS Excel for financial modelling, Dakota Cube and Power BI experience is a strong asset.

  • Experience in investment banking is considered an asset.

  • Experienced with: 

    • Strong leadership, project management, risk and time management skill set.

    • Strong work ethic and high level of personal integrity.

    • Team-focused, accountable and possessing a high degree of independent judgement and sensitivity to confidentiality.
