Corporate Controller
Job Description
Our client is a privately held oil and natural gas exploration and production company with operations focused in Central and Northern Alberta. With a strong core asset base and a focus on sustainable growth, the organization is committed to operational excellence, technical innovation, and long-term value creation.
They are currently seeking a Corporate Controller to join their Calgary-based team.
Responsibilities:
Lead the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements and MD&A in accordance with IFRS and applicable regulatory requirements
Prepare and enhance monthly internal management reporting packages, including KPI analysis, variances, and operational metrics
Oversee cash flow management, treasury functions, and corporate banking relationships
Manage Canadian and U.S. tax compliance in coordination with external advisors
Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting and finance team
Collaborate cross-functionally with operations, engineering, land, and executive leadership teams
Oversee consolidated financial reporting for the U.S. parent entity
Develop and maintain internal controls, accounting policies, and financial procedures
Coordinate internal and external audits and act as the primary liaison with auditors
Monitor changes to accounting standards and ensure ongoing compliance
Maintain general ledger integrity, reconciliations, and financial close processes
Provide financial analysis and strategic support related to capital allocation, asset performance, acquisitions, and other corporate initiatives
Drive continuous improvement across financial systems, reporting processes, and ERP optimization initiatives
Manage external service providers including audit, tax, banking, and consulting partners
Support additional finance and operational initiatives as required
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
CPA designation required
Progressive experience in financial reporting and controllership within the oil & gas industry
Strong understanding of IFRS and industry-specific accounting practices
Experience managing full-cycle accounting and financial close processes
Knowledge of Canadian and U.S. tax frameworks and cross-border reporting considerations
Experience with ERP systems such as Qbyte FM and Microsoft 365
Strong analytical, communication, and problem-solving abilities
Proven leadership experience managing teams and competing priorities
High attention to detail with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
