Intermediate Hydrotechnical Engineer

Job Description

Our client is seeking a permanent full time Intermediate Hydrotechnical Engineer to join their expanding Geo-Hydro department in Kelowna, BC to support the increasing workload in the BC Interior and throughout the province. Our client has extensive experience in delivering hydrotechnical and geotechnical services for infrastructure projects, dam engineering, and river engineering. The ideal candidate will be proficient in project management, hydrologic/watershed analysis, hydraulic analysis and design of hydraulic structures.

Responsibilities:

  • Projecting management of the Geo-Hydro team.

  • Participating in the undertaking and analysis of hydrologic assessments of watersheds.

  • The design of hydraulic structures and hydraulic flow modelling.

  • Site investigation and construction inspection.

  • Floodplain assessments and mapping.

  • Design of sedimentation/detention ponds.

  • Dam safety reviews.

  • Culvert and erosion protection design.

  • Preparing technical memos and reports.

  • Ongoing communication with the client.

  • Periodic travel throughout British Columbia may be required as part of this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or Water Resources with at least 7 years related work experience is required.

  • Must be registered, or be eligible to registered as a Professional Engineer in BC.

  • Strong Project Management skills.

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) with a clean driving record.

  • Legally eligible to work in Canada.

  • Knowledge of standard computer hydrologic and hydraulic modeling software packages such as SWIMM, HYFRAN, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS, HY-7, FLO-2D.

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.

  • The ability to manage multiple projects and work independently under minimal supervision.

  • Strong work ethic with the desire to excel and achieve.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to work independently or as part of a team.

  • Familiarity with environmental permitting, legislation and regulations including the Riparian Area Regulation and the Water Sustainability Act.

  • Experience with taking projects from proposal stage through conceptual design, detailed design, and construction.

  • Knowledge of Canadian Dam Safety Guidelines, Associated Technical Bulletins, and the BC Dam Safety Regulations.

  • Knowledge of the Canadian Highway Bridge Design Code and the BC Supplement to TAC Geometric Design Guide.

  • Business development skills.

  • Experience with additional design software (e.g. AutoCAD Civil3D
