Senior Linux Systems Administrator

Job Description

We are seeking a Senior Linux Systems Administrator who has experience and the desire to lead other technologists. This full time hybrid position is based in Calgary, Alberta. The preferred candidate will have interest in applying technology skills for the public good. We are looking for a smart, passionate, and purpose-driven individual to join our client’s team which is a not-for-profit agency whose mission is to improve the lives of Albertans through the use and advancement of technology, digital literacy, and digital best practices.

Responsibilities:

  • Contributing to the creation of infrastructure for a regional security operations centre.

  • Managing OpenStack environments.

  • Enhancing AWS expertise to support internally developed applications.

  • Maintaining various infrastructure and services that is utilized daily to fulfill the mission.

  • Mentor other team members in best practices, approaches, and technologies to help elevate the team's overall capability

  • Review repeating issues and problems, suggest fixes, and work with your team to implement improvements.

  • Encourage constant review and improvement of processes.

  • Be part of a compensated on-call rotation for applicable projects you are part of.

  • Provide architectural decisions affecting service delivery, scalability, and disaster recovery.

  • Assist with budgeting, planning, and purchasing equipment.

  • Maintain relationships with the external stakeholders both in and outside of the technology space.

Requirements

  • Expert understanding of Linux and virtualization.

  • Expert troubleshooting skills with both hardware and software.

  • Excellent communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Experience in scripting languages which includes shell scripting as well as one higher level language such as Python.

  • Experience in Cloud Platforms such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, and AWS.

  • Experience in Configuration Management Systems such as Puppet and Ansible.
