Security Operations Centre Manager - Calgary

Job Description

Our client is looking for an experienced and dynamic cybersecurity professional to lead the operations of a newly established regional Security Operations Centre (rSOC). This is a unique opportunity to play a key role in shaping cybersecurity infrastructure in the public and education sectors. The successful candidate will be responsible for guiding a high-performing analyst team, managing real-time threat response and incident coordination, and collaborating with internal stakeholders and global security partners. Responsibilities:

  • Lead day-to-day operations of the SOC team, ensuring efficient workflows and service delivery

  • Oversee threat detection, incident triage, and response in line with established procedures and SLAs

  • Work closely with detection teams to enhance threat intelligence and implement automation tools

  • Manage team scheduling including shifts, on-call rotations, and vacation coverage

  • Mentor and develop SOC analysts, fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement

  • Build strong partnerships with internal departments, external member organizations, and global peers

  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of emerging threats and inform detection and response strategies

  • Provide on-call support for critical incidents as needed

  • Navigate a fast-paced, high-stakes environment while maintaining operational excellence

Requirements

  • 5–10 years of experience in security operations, incident response, threat hunting, or forensic roles

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent practical experience; cybersecurity certifications are an asset

  • Proven leadership experience, particularly with hybrid (remote/in-office) teams

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex cybersecurity topics clearly

  • High level of discretion and professionalism when dealing with sensitive matters

  • Hands-on experience with tools such as SIEM, SOAR, and UEBA

  • Familiarity with current cybersecurity threats, tactics, and actors

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity frameworks such as NIST CSF and CIS

  • Ability to work independently while aligning with broader strategic goals
