Accounting Manager - Edmonton

Job Description

Our client is seeking a proactive and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee financial operations across a group of portfolio companies and joint ventures within a private equity/family office setting. This role is responsible for preparing and reviewing financial statements, managing a small team, and supporting strategic initiatives alongside the CFO. The ideal candidate brings a solid foundation in accounting principles, thrives in a fast-paced, evolving environment, and has experience navigating multi-entity structures.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and review financial statements for various entities, including joint ventures, within a complex ownership structure

  • Consolidate financial reports and perform variance analysis to support financial and operational decision-making

  • Collaborate with the CFO and operations teams to define and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs)

  • Lead and support a small accounting team, managing day-to-day functions such as accounts payable and receivable

  • Record and reconcile intercompany and related party transactions with a high degree of accuracy

  • Liaise with external accountants on annual tax filings and year-end engagements

  • Complete GST reconciliations and ensure timely remittances on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis

  • Contribute to the development of internal controls, processes, and accounting policies

  • Assist the CFO with financial aspects of mergers and acquisitions as required

  • Perform additional financial tasks and special projects as needed.

Requirements

  • Core Competencies

    • Clear, confident communicator with the ability to engage stakeholders across finance and operations

    • Strong analytical mindset with attention to detail and a solutions-oriented approach

    • Self-motivated and capable of working independently or collaboratively in small teams

    • Comfortable with accounting systems and technology; experience with ERP implementations is an asset

    • Adaptable to change and committed to continuous improvement

    • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining discretion

  • Qualifications

    • CPA designation is required

    • In-depth understanding of accounting standards and financial reporting

    • Proven experience preparing and reviewing financial statements

    • Background working in a multi-entity environment is a strong asset

    • Tech-savvy and able to quickly learn and leverage accounting software and tools
