Chemical Process Engineer

Job Description

We are hiring a Bilingual Chemical Process Engineer to join our client’s team in Montreal, Quebec. This role requires in-depth knowledge of chemical engineering principles, including chemical reaction kinetics, thermodynamics, mass and heat transfer, heat and material balances, fluid mechanics, and process design. A strong understanding of processes relevant to the planned facility—such as electrolysis, air separation units, and the production of ammonia and ammonium nitrate—is essential. The ideal candidate will contribute to optimizing operations and ensuring efficient, safe, and reliable chemical processes within the facility.

Responsibilities:

  • Designing chemical processes from concept development to commercialization. This includes unit operation selection, process equipment specification, and process optimization.

  • Designing chemical plants, including plant layout, piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), equipment selection, and integration of various process units.

  • Lead large, complex engineering projects from feasibility studies to FEED to commissioning and startup.

  • Lead, motivate, and manage a team of engineers, designers, and other technical professionals.

  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with project design, construction, and commissioning.

  • Communicating effectively with internal stakeholders (management, operations) and external contractors.

  • Identify and mitigate potential risks associated with project design, construction, and commissioning.

Requirements

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license relevant to the project location – member of the OIQ.

  • Additional certifications like Certified Plant Safety Manager (CCPS) or Certified Project Management Professional (PMP) is beneficial.

  • In-depth knowledge of chemical engineering principles.

  • Bilingual in French and English

  • Extensive experience in designing chemical processes from concept development to commercialization. This includes unit operation selection, process equipment specification, and process optimization.

  • Thorough understanding of safety regulations (OSHA, EPA) and environmental regulations relevant to chemical processing facilities.

  • Experience in developing and managing project budgets for large-scale chemical processing

    facilities.

  • Prior experience leading the design and construction of similar large-scale chemical processing facilities would be highly valuable.
