Electrical Power Engineer
Job Description
We are looking for a highly motivated and experienced bilingual Electrical Power Engineer to join our client’s team in Montreal, Quebec. In this role, you will be instrumental in the design, development, operation, and maintenance of electrical power systems, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient delivery of power. The position involves working in a dynamic, project-focused environment, requiring strong collaboration and teamwork. Responsibilities:
Design and develop electrical power systems for industrial, commercial, or utility applications, considering factors like power capacity, voltage levels, and system layout.
Perform power system analysis, including load flow studies, short circuit analysis, and arc flash hazard assessments to ensure system stability and safety.
Select, specify, and source electrical equipment such as transformers, rectifiers, switchgear, and protective relays.
Prepare technical documents like engineering drawings, single-line diagrams, and equipment specifications.
Participate in project planning, budgeting, and scheduling.
Oversee the installation, testing, and commissioning of electrical power systems.
Troubleshoot and resolve electrical system problems, ensuring efficient operation and maintenance.
Maintain up-to-date knowledge of electrical codes, standards, and industry best practices.
Collaborate effectively with other engineers, technicians, and project stakeholders.
May participate in the procurement process for electrical equipment and materials.
Requirements
Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering P. Eng.
Minimum of 6+ years of experience working as an Electrical Power Engineer in a high-power environment) i.e., Steel,
Aluminum, power utility, Chemical, Petroleum, and possibly Cement industries.
Proven experience in designing, analyzing, and implementing electrical power systems for industrial, commercial, or utility applications.
Strong understanding of power system analysis tools and software (e.g., ETAP, PSS/E, SKM).
Experience with electrical codes and standards (e.g., National Electrical Code (NEC), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) standards).
Proficient in computer-aided design (CAD) software for electrical systems.
Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork skills. Has worked closely with Hydro-Québec's Power Transmission Division.
Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Ability to work with international teams and within an owner’s engineer context (especially for large projects).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Experience with renewable energy integration into electrical power systems.
Knowledge of power plant operations.
Experience with arc flash mitigation strategies.
Professional Engineer (PE) license OIQ member
