Property Accountant - Edmonton, AB

Job Description

Our client, a well-established and forward-thinking property management company, is looking for a skilled Property Accountant to join their growing team. In this role, you will play an essential part in the financial operations of a diverse real estate portfolio, ensuring accurate reporting, optimizing cash flow, and supporting compliance with accounting standards. Responsibilities:

  • Prepare monthly financial reports including income statements, balance sheets, and cash flow statements.

  • Record and post journal entries, ensuring accuracy and adherence to accounting standards.

  • Conduct bank reconciliations and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.

  • Monitor property-level cash flow and implement effective cash management strategies.

  • Track and reconcile accounts receivable, liaise with tenants regarding outstanding balances.

  • Accurately post rent payments and prepare deposit slips.

  • Review and process accounts payable invoices and vendor payments.

  • Manage move-out processes including changes and security deposit refunds.

  • Set up new properties, tenants, and automated workflows in Yardi systems.

  • Post NSF payments via Rent Café and follow up with tenants.

  • Coordinate utility account set-up and cancellations.

  • Handle non-residence and GST tax filings, and coordinate annual property tax invoicing.

  • Support off-boarding processes for properties.

  • Assist with annual budgeting and financial planning efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related discipline.

  • CPA designation or progression toward certification is preferred.

  • Minimum of 3 years of property accounting or related financial experience.

  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.

  • Experience with property management systems such as Yardi is strongly preferred.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities.

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines independently and collaboratively.
