Job Description

Our client is seeking an experienced Shop Foreman to lead and support operations at their Edmonton facility. This role is responsible for supervising and scheduling workers, ensuring production goals are met, and maintaining high standards for quality and safety. The ideal candidate is hands-on, solutions-oriented, and capable of mentoring team members while driving operational excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise, coordinate, and schedule shop staff to meet production and quality targets

  • Establish work methods and coordinate tasks with other departments

  • Provide hands-on leadership, mentoring, and training to shop employees

  • Troubleshoot issues and recommend improvements to productivity and product quality

  • Contribute to production planning and requisition of materials and supplies

  • Train staff on job duties, safety procedures, and company policies

  • Recommend personnel actions such as hiring and promotions

  • Prepare operational reports and manage the budget for your area of responsibility

  • May also oversee the work of tradespeople, laborers, or other team members

  • Ensure the health and safety of all direct reports

  • Provide proper task training, equipment knowledge, and ongoing supervision

  • Complete required safety checks and participate in scheduled safety activities

  • Actively communicate health and safety expectations to staff and observe for compliance

  • Notify and collaborate with the Health & Safety department regarding inspections, incidents, or inquiries

Requirements

  • Mechanical degree or Journeyman status in Mechanics, Millwrighting, or Machining

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar shop environment

  • At least 3 years of supervisory experience with proven leadership and coaching skills

  • Previous experience with pumps or compressors is a strong asset

  • Proficiency in Excel (intermediate), Word, and PowerPoint

  • Strong team-building and verbal/written communication skills

  • High level of adaptability, resourcefulness, and a proactive work ethic

  • Able to work within established procedures and meet operational goals and deadlines

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Journeyman Mechanic, Millwright, or Machinist

  • Forklift Operator Certification

  • Overhead Crane Certification

  • WHMIS Certification

  • Manual dexterity required for computer use

  • Occasional overtime as required

  • Ability to lift or move up to 10 lbs

  • Local travel may be required (5–10%)
