Professional CPA/Partner

Job Description

Catch Recruitment is seeking a professional CPA for our client in a small city in Alberta. The client is a medium-sized accounting firm with a broad client base spanning various sectors of the local economy, including agriculture, oil and gas services, retail, professional services, manufacturing, rental, and investments, along with a significant personal tax base. The firm has been a staple of the local community for 35 years.

This position requires working closely with all members of the firm in a collaborative and positive manner to deliver outstanding accounting, tax, and consulting services to both current and future clients. The successful candidate will initially work as a staff CPA to familiarize themselves with the firm’s processes, procedures, and clients. After a short period, and upon demonstrating their ability and professionalism, they will have the opportunity to become an associate of the firm and, over time, progress to a partnership role.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage a client group with an estimated revenue range of $250,000-$500,000+ (private enterprise clients) after a successful training period.

  • Display a professional attitude and appearance in the office and community.

  • Develop and maintain client relationships.

  • Facilitate client meetings (with training) as needed.

  • Prepare and, in time, review client files, primarily on a compilation basis, with the possibility of a few review and audit engagements.

  • Prepare tax plans and filings as necessary and provide business consulting as required by clients.

  • Take over some management and office administration duties.

  • Make suggestions on firm procedures and processes to increase efficiencies.

Requirements

  • CPA designation or very close to obtaining designation.

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

  • Strong desire to build a career in public practice.

  • Experience completing or reviewing year-end review and compilation engagement files.

  • Proficiency with accounting software, particularly CaseWare, Profile, Sage 50, QuickBooks, and QuickBooks Online.

  • Strong skills in Microsoft Office.

  • Experience preparing the following tax filings: Personal Income Tax and Benefit Returns (T1s), Corporation Income Tax Returns (T2s), Trust Tax Returns (T3s), Charity Information Returns (T3010s), Capital Dividend Elections (T2054s), Election on Disposition of Property to a Taxable Canadian Corporation (T2057s), other tax filings as required by the Canada Revenue Agency
