Senior Accountant
Job Description
We are seeking a Senior Accountant to join our client’s team in Calgary. This role is integral to ensuring the financial health of the organization by performing a wide range of responsibilities, including revenue analysis, recording, monthly and year-end adjustments, account reconciliation, and the preparation of financial statements. The Senior Accountant will play a key role in financial analysis, budget development, and the preparation of quarterly financial reports, all in alignment with accounting standards and organizational goals. In addition to routine tasks, this position will support financial system upgrades and process improvement initiatives, collaborating with various departments to provide strategic financial insights. We are looking for a detail-oriented professional with exceptional analytical skills and the ability to work independently while contributing to broader organizational objectives.
Responsibilities:
Receive and code invoices, invoice/expense claim according to the budget allocation and process.
Process authorized expense claim forms.
Reconcile the accounts payable sub-ledger, accruals and prepaid to the G/L .
Liaise with vendors and address their inquiries on a timely basis.
Track recurring invoices and follow-up with suppliers to ensure monthly receipt.
Process accounts payable a minimum of twice per month, including printing cheques for sign-off by signing authorities.
Create payment reports for senior leadership to initiate transfer of funds from the Savings account to the Operating account.
Maintain a sub-ledger of professional development expenses.
Oversee the reconciliation of key balance sheet accounts; cash and banks (to be approved by the Finance Manager), investments, accounts receivable, prepaid expenses, unprocessed (deferred) revenue accounts, provision for future claims and fixed assets.
Submit bank reconciliations for approval by Finance Manager.
Reconcile and monitor compliance of trust accounts, ensuring compliance with trust conditions.
Preparation of financial statements and reports for senior leadership, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
Prepare monthly journal entries.
Requirements
Completed post-secondary degree with an emphasis on accounting or a combination of education and work experience or equivalent.
Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience with full cycle accounting.
Knowledge of accounting principles for not-for-profit organizations.
Proficient in operating the following systems: Sage Intacct accounting system for payables, disbursements, and general ledger processes.
Intermediate knowledge of the following systems: Moneris Credit transaction system,
Bank cash management system, Microsoft 365 products including Excel, Word, Outlook, Teams, and Power Point.
