Payroll & Benefits Specialist
Job Description
Our client in the Industrial and Equipment Services sector is seeking a senior Payroll & Benefits Specialist to join their Edmonton team. This role requires strong U.S. payroll experience and involves managing complex payroll processes for Canadian and U.S. employees. Reporting to the Payroll and Benefits Manager, you will oversee payroll operations, and provide expert support to employees. In addition to payroll duties, you will be instrumental in administering and enhancing employee benefits programs. Acting as a knowledgeable liaison for employees, you will support on payroll and benefits matters across the organization. Responsibilities:
Execute accurate, timely payroll processing for both Canadian and U.S. employees,ensuring compliance with federal, provincial/state, and local regulations.
Manage benefits programs, including enrollments, terminations, and annual open enrollment.
Liaise with providers and employees to resolve benefit related inquiries.
Stay up-to-date with changes in payroll laws and regulations across Canada and the U.S. and ensure company practices remain compliant.
Serve as a resource for employees regarding payroll, deductions and tax withholding related questions.
Identify and implement best practices to streamline payroll and benefits processes,enhance accuracy, and reduce errors.
Conduct regular payroll audits, prepare reports for finance and HR departments, and support year-end processes such as T4's (Canada) and W-2's (U.S.)
Investigate and resolve any discrepancies in payroll, collaborating closely with operations to ensure accuracy and compliance.
Support the processing of new hires and employee terminations, ensuring accurate and timely updates to payroll and benefit records.
Manage and process employee data updates and pay-related adjustments accurately and eViciently.
Maintain thorough payroll records and documentation to support audit requirements.
Contribute to policy and procedure development for the Payroll Department, implementing best practices in payroll accounting and maintaining strict confidentiality.
Ensure compliance with legislative requirements through regular review of updates from government sites, and reconcile year-end adjustments for accurate reporting.
Analytical reporting and projects as required.
Perform additional duties as assigned.
Requirements
Canadian Payroll Certification (PCP or CPM) is required.
5+ years of payroll and benefits experience, with expertise in both Canadian and U.S. payroll systems.
Demonstrated advanced proficiency in MS OVice, especially Excel, for payroll processing and data analysis.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong customer service orientation.
Experience with Ceridian Dayforce is an asset.
Familiar with benefits programs and employment legislation in Canada and this knowledge within the U.S is considered an asset.
Demonstrates excellent accuracy and attention to detail in all payroll and benefits tasks.
