Payroll Accountant - (PT Contract)
Job Description
Our client is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Payroll Accountant to oversee accurate, compliant, and timely payroll processing across the organization. This role works closely with HR and Finance to ensure all payroll data is collected, verified, and processed with precision. The ideal candidate brings strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and a commitment to maintaining confidentiality while supporting both day-to-day payroll operations and broader financial reporting needs.
Responsibilities:
Collect, review, and validate employee timekeeping data.
Process wages, bonuses, deductions, and all payroll-related transactions accurately and on schedule.
Ensure payroll practices comply with internal policies, employment standards, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain adherence to federal and provincial legislation, tax rules, pension requirements, and statutory obligations.
Prepare and submit statutory remittances and filings within required deadlines.
Conduct regular payroll audits to identify discrepancies and implement resolutions.
Produce payroll reports for internal and external stakeholders.
Respond to employee inquiries regarding earnings, deductions, and payroll processes.
Partner with HR to administer benefits programs, including health benefits and retirement plans.
Ensure accurate and compliant benefits deductions and reconciliations.
Work cross-functionally with HR, Finance, and other teams to troubleshoot and align payroll activities.
Recommend and support improvements to enhance payroll efficiency and accuracy.
Administration duties are as follows:
Maintain accurate payroll records in payroll systems and internal tracking documents.
Prepare recurring payroll summaries and generate ad hoc reporting as needed.
Support Finance with budgeting, forecasting, and payroll-related projections.
Contribute to the month-end and year-end close by supplying payroll data and reconciliations.
Assist with additional accounting and administrative tasks as required.
Communicate payroll procedures clearly and support employees in resolving payroll-related issues.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field—or equivalent relevant experience.
Proven experience managing full-cycle payroll.
Strong knowledge of federal and provincial payroll legislation and statutory remittances.
Proficiency with payroll systems (e.g., ADP, Ceridian, or similar) and Microsoft Excel.
Experience administering benefits programs and reconciling deductions.
Strong understanding of payroll workflows, accounting principles, and financial reporting.
Demonstrated accuracy in high-volume data entry environments.
Ability to meet strict deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
Experience supporting audit processes or financial reviews.
Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
Clear and professional communication skills.
High level of discretion and respect for confidentiality.
Strong problem-solving skills in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
Collaborative team player with strong cross-functional communication abilities.
This position is a contract opportunity, working on a part-time basis (3 days a week) within our client’s HQ situated in Downtown Vancouver, BC. Rate per hour: $36.00. Contract is December 15th-January 31st, 2026.
