Legal Assistant – Litigation

Job Description

Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Litigation Legal Assistant to join their team in Calgary. This position offers the opportunity to work in a fast-paced, professional, and collaborative environment supporting a busy litigation practice. The ideal candidate will have a minimum of three to five years of experience as a legal assistant, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining exceptional attention to detail.

The successful candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and thrive in a team-based environment. They will demonstrate a strong commitment to client service, possess exceptional interpersonal skills, and bring a proactive, solution-driven approach to their work.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage all administrative functions, including email and calendar management, meeting coordination, and travel arrangements.

  • Prepare and maintain a bring-forward system and provide appropriate reminders.

  • Draft, revise, and format legal documents and correspondence under lawyer supervision.

  • Handle digital dictation, billing coordination, and time entry.

  • Organize and maintain both physical and electronic filing systems.

  • Liaise with other administrative departments and provide support or coverage within the litigation group as needed.

  • Perform other related duties as required by the legal team or management.

Requirements

  • Completion of an accredited Legal Assistant program (or equivalent combination of education and experience).

  • Minimum of 3–5 years of experience as a Legal Assistant, preferably within a large firm environment.

  • At least one year of experience in litigation is required.

  • Strong knowledge of court processes, with experience in commercial and higher-level courts (Federal, Court of Appeal) considered an asset.

  • Proficiency in MS Office 365, Adobe Pro, Excel, PowerPoint, and document management systems (such as iManage).

  • Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.

  • Strong client service focus with the ability to work collaboratively and proactively in a fast-paced environment.

  • High level of accuracy, professionalism, and initiative.
