Job Description

Our client is seeking a Corporate Controller to lead all accounting operations across the organization. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day financial activities, internal controls, financial reporting, and tax compliance. Reporting directly to the CFO, the Controller will lead the accounting team and collaborate closely with senior leadership to support strategic growth and financial transformation initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead the preparation of timely and accurate financial statements (monthly, quarterly, and annual), including tax schedules and supporting documentation.

  • Manage the day-to-day financial operations in accordance with the organization's Delegation of Authority (DOA).

  • Ensure full compliance with statutory requirements, including income tax, GST, CPP, and EI remittances.

  • Provide accounting guidance and technical memos related to complex transactions, new business lines, or structural changes.

  • Lead, manage, and grow the accounting team—including hiring, performance management, team structure, and training.

  • Act as the key liaison for all internal and external audit processes.

  • Monitor and improve internal control practices and identify areas for process improvement.

  • Build and maintain accounting policies and procedures aligned with best practices, ensuring strong documentation and cross-training.

  • Ensure the accounting system is optimized to support robust reporting, insightful decision-making, and efficient operations.

  • Partner with the Director of Finance and Executive Team to support Board reporting, leadership presentations, and ad hoc financial analysis.

  • Implementing a new ERP system (transitioning from NAV 2015 to Microsoft Dynamics—either Business Central or Finance & Operations).

  • Centralizing senior-level accounting positions in Calgary (currently spread across multiple regional offices).

  • Standardizing and streamlining accounting processes and working paper practices across all regions into one cohesive, national structure.

  • Supporting and integrating future tuck-in acquisitions into the financial reporting framework.

  • Automating financial consolidation, transitioning away from Excel-based consolidation to fully integrated processes within the ERP system.

  • Refining core business processes—such as manufacturing workflows, inventory tracking, and quote-to-cash cycles—to align with best practices and support effective ERP adoption.

Requirements

  • CPA designation (or equivalent).

  • Experience in a product-based business with manufacturing or inventory operations is strongly preferred.

  • Advanced Excel skills, including use of pivot tables and complex formulas.

  • Solid knowledge of IFRS and operational accounting principles.

  • Understanding of manufacturing workflows and inventory control best practices.

  • Proven ability to conduct financial analysis and deliver actionable insights.

  • Highly detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.

  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and work under tight deadlines.

  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across departments and leadership levels.

  • Experience in one or more of the following is considered a strong asset: ERP system implementations (especially Dynamics 365), finance transformations, M&A and post-acquisition integrations, or international financial operations.
