Controller
Job Description
We are looking for a Controller to join our client’s team in Calgary, Alberta. Reporting directly to the Chief Financial Officer, the Controller will oversee the company’s financial operations, ensuring the delivery of accurate and timely financial information to senior leadership. Key responsibilities include financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, cash flow management, and performance analysis. This role involves leading the company’s accounting functions by establishing and maintaining accounting procedures, preparing financial statements, and implementing robust internal controls. Additionally, the Controller will act as a strategic partner to organizational leadership, supporting efforts to enhance operational efficiency and achieve business goals.
Responsibilities:
Oversee all accrual information, journal entries and any related working papers.
Development and management of organizational accounting policies, procedures and strategies.
Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes with members of company leadership.
Development of KPI metrics alongside company leadership team and provide performance analysis reports against historical and budgeted details in order to inform strategic decision-making and growth plans.
Develop and document new ideas that align with organizational strategies to improve financial work processes while incorporating finance best practices.
Identify opportunities for increased fiscal effectiveness and efficiency, and develop and implements solutions.
Maintenance of organizational cashflows and credit.
Manage and oversee Payroll, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable including liaising with clients to ensure timely Accounts Receivable, escalating to leadership team when required.
Contribute to and maintain a solid understanding of systems, including the company’s ERP and other software, to support analysis and reporting.
Development, training, and management of finance team members.
Lead the audit process with all external audit groups
Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce, Finance, or comparable field
Professional Accounting Designation (CPA, CA, CMA, CGA)
Minimum 5 years’ post-designation experience in a progressively challenging Finance Professional role
Excellent communicator
Ability to listen and to influence without authority
Supportive and positive in outlook and approach, yet able to provide constructive skepticism when evaluating alternatives
Results focus, continually driving an increase in enterprise value
Strong analytical skills, able to pull trends and understand the big picture
