Team Lead, Production Accounting

Job Description

We are seeking a Team Lead, Production Accounting to oversee a team of production accountants supporting a portfolio of oil and gas assets across Western Canada. Reporting to the Production Accounting Manager, this individual will play a key leadership role in ensuring the accurate and timely processing of monthly production, revenue, and royalty accounting, while also mentoring and supporting team members in a collaborative and high-performance environment.

This position is ideal for a seasoned production accountant who brings strong technical expertise, leadership capabilities, and a solutions-oriented mindset.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide day-to-day leadership, coaching, and technical guidance to a team of production accountants

  • Oversee full-cycle production accounting activities for both operated and non-operated oil and gas assets

  • Review and approve pipeline splits, revenue entries, royalties, and related journal entries

  • Ensure compliance with regulatory reporting (Petrinex), APMC, EPAP, and PAD requirements

  • Coordinate month-end close processes, ensuring accuracy and timeliness of all submissions

  • Manage complex amendments, reconciliations, and reworks

  • Liaise with internal teams including finance, operations, land, and marketing to resolve discrepancies and streamline reporting

  • Support ongoing process improvements and implement best practices within the production accounting function

  • Lead or support special projects, audits, and system enhancements as required

Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in oil and gas production accounting, preferably in Alberta

  • Strong working knowledge of P2 Qbyte Metrix (production accounting) and Qbyte FM (financial accounting)

  • Solid understanding of financial accounting principles and reporting requirements in the oil and gas industry

  • Experience with government reporting systems (Petrinex), APMC reconciliations, and EPAP/PAD submissions

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other accounting tools

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy in high-volume environments

  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple deadlines effectively

  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or a related field is preferred
