Job Description

We are seeking an experienced and dedicated Controller to join our client’s team in the oil and gas industry. This is a 12-month, in-office position, perfect for a hands-on professional who thrives on taking charge of the accounting process and driving results. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in full-cycle accounting, month-end closing, and financial reporting, demonstrating the ability to manage these critical functions seamlessly. As the Controller, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations while also mentoring and overseeing one direct report.

Responsibilities:

  • Oversee aspects of the accounting functions including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, and financial reporting.

  • Manage and mentor Payables Administrator and Jr. Accountant

  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements monthly, including balance sheets and income statements.

  • Oversee month-end entries to ensure all financial statement items are accurately recorded.

  • Review and facilitate on-time vendor payments.

  • Contact clients to follow up on outstanding payments and coordinate communications to resolve any issues.

  • Collaborate with department heads to ensure accuracy in department financials through generating monthly reports for their review and confirmation, and oversee adjustments to financials if needed.

  • Ensure timely remittance of source deductions for payroll.

  • Develop monthly and quarterly financial review presentations for departments.

  • Provide financial analysis and insights to support strategic decision-making.

  • Ensure compliance with regulations and reporting requirements.

  • Develop and implement internal controls to safeguard company assets and ensure financial accuracy

  • Manage additional tasks as required to support the company's needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA or CMA certification

    preferred.

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

  • Strong knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and financial reporting.

  • Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Business Central D365 or similar) and advanced Excel skills

  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong communication and leadership abilities, with experience managing and developing teams.

  • High attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy and integrity.
