Senior Biologist

Job Description

Our client is looking for a Senior Biologist to join their expanding Environmental team, with the role based in either Kelowna or Vancouver. This is a great opportunity for an experienced consulting biologist with a strong technical foundation in terrestrial and wildlife ecology, combined with leadership and project management expertise.

The role offers a mix of field and office-based work, with some travel and remote work required. The team supports a wide variety of projects across sectors such as forestry, renewable energy, municipal planning, land development, oil and gas, transportation, and mining. Clients include provincial agencies, municipalities, First Nations communities, and private sector organizations throughout British Columbia. The position is well-suited for someone who thrives in a collaborative, solutions-focused environment and is excited to contribute to impactful environmental initiatives.

Responsibilities:

  • Plan, coordinate, and lead field studies focused on terrestrial ecosystems and wildlife, including habitat assessments, species-at-risk surveys, and biodiversity monitoring initiatives.

  • Analyze ecological data to inform environmental assessments, impact evaluations, and mitigation strategies.

  • Prepare clear, high-quality technical reports and regulatory submissions in accordance with provincial and federal environmental regulations.

  • Engage with clients, regulatory bodies, Indigenous communities, and other stakeholders to support project approvals and foster positive relationships.

  • Lead or support multi-disciplinary project teams, managing timelines, budgets, and deliverables to ensure project success.

  • Oversee project planning and execution, including scheduling, budgeting, cost tracking, and billing coordination.

  • Mentor junior staff and contribute to business development efforts, including proposal preparation and client engagement.

  • Collaborate with internal and external teams to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.

  • Complete operational and administrative tasks as required to support project and corporate objectives

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or graduate degree in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related discipline.

  • Registered Professional Biologist (R.P.Bio. or P.Biol.) in good standing with the BC College of Applied Biologists.

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience, including fieldwork and environmental consulting.

  • Strong technical background in terrestrial ecology and wildlife biology, with a solid understanding of regulatory requirements.

  • Proven leadership and mentoring abilities, with a collaborative and adaptable working style.

  • Experience managing a variety of project types and sizes, including developing work plans, proposals, and cost estimates.

  • Skilled in overseeing project tasks, managing budgets and schedules, and delivering high-quality results to clients.

  • Demonstrated ability to produce clear, accurate technical reports aligned with provincial and federal legislation.

  • Proficient in field study design, ecological assessment, data analysis, and interpretation.

  • Experience with permitting processes, environmental assessments, and mitigation planning.

  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards applicable to environmental work.

  • Excellent communication skills, including report writing, presentations, and stakeholder engagement.

  • Highly organized with strong time management and the ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Committed to safety and maintaining a safety-first mindset in all fieldwork.

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent) and willingness to travel for fieldwork as required.
